A Better Hydrodynamics From Kinetic Theory

Wolfgang Bauer (Michigan State University)

This presentation will show evidence that kinetic theory based approaches can pass all standard tests for hydrodynamics applications in the limit of short mean free path. This implies that kinetic theory can be used in all instances where hydrodynamics is currently the state of the art.  In addition, our approach can also treat cases with Knudsen numbers outside the traditional range of applicability of hydrodynamics.  I will discuss specific cases from ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions, supernova explosions, and inertial confinement fusion.
