The charming side of ALICE

Kai Schweda (GSI Darmstadt)

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN provides nucleus-nucleus collisions at highest energies. In these collisions, the creation of a quark gluon plasma (QGP) is expected: a state of de-confined and thermalized quarks and gluons. Heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are unique probes of such a QGP and they are copiously produced at LHC energies. We report on recent results on heavy quark production in ALICE.
