Ubuntu 12.04 brings some radical changes in the user interface.

The Gnome desktop has been upgraded to Version 3, which introduces the Gnome-Shell. A completely different way interaction with the desktop than in Gnome 2. You may read the introduction on the Gnome Website:

If you don't like the Gnome-Shell, there are several alternatives:
