Note: Other printers are meant for local use only.
The most convenient way to print your files is via the program gtklp, a graphical front-end to the printing system that lets you choose the most suitable printing style. You may use it directly on a shell as
gtklp file.ps
to print a file file.ps. You may also use that command without any argument as the print command for an application (instead of lpr). Some programs may actually be configured like that by default.
Alternatively, you may use the lpr or the lp command to print a file, but these are a bit more difficult to use, especially when you want to use specific printer options. Use man lpr and man lp for details. If you have problems using these, please use gtklp instead.
Printing of Postscript files is well supported. Other formats may or may not work directly. When in doubt, use your favourite viewing/editing program to print from there.

Printer Status
The status of the printer is also accesible through the web browser pointing to http://localhost:631. With that interface it is possible to delete/move your jobs waiting the queue using your usual ITP credentials. This requires an "upgrade" of your connection to https and accepting a non verifiable certificate.
Special features
The following settings may be made after selecting the button Properties to the right of the printer selection button in gtklp.
Transparencies
Select a Paper type of Transparency and a Paper source of Tray 1. Be sure to switch to non-duplex printing: Duplex Printing -> None. Note: Make sure the printer has enough paper (otherwise other users' jobs may print onto your transparencies when you put them in).
One by one, put your transparencies into Tray 1. For ps9 and ps14, be sure to remove the paper backing from each transparency. Make sure you put the printing side down when using ps1/ps2/ps9. Make sure you put the printing side up when using ps12/ps13/ps14.
Warning: Color printers not tolerate transparencies with paper backing. You must remove the paper backing from each transparency, otherwise the printers will reject it or produce paper jams!
Normal paper (only necessary if you have changed and saved other settings): Select a Paper type of Normal or Plain (if possible) and a Paper source of Tray 2 or Middle or Default.
Non-duplex printing:
Select Duplex Printing -> None.
Duplex printing
Select Duplex Printing -> Long edge (or Long side) if you want to bond at the long edge of your sheets of paper. Or select Duplex Printing -> Short edge (or Short side) if you want to bond at the short edge.
Printing two pages on one side
Select Pages per sheet -> 2. You may also enable or disable duplex in this mode, see above.
DIN A3 printing
The printers egale1 and eagle2 support printing on DIN A3 paper (twice as large as A4). For that to work, please choose a Paper size of A3 and a Paper source of Tray 4 explicitly.
