If you software need can not be fullfilled with Linux, we provide Windows based on a virtual machine. Starting with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) we use VirtualBox in the open source edition for this.
How to get a Windows license
The get the permission to use Windows and MS Office you must own a valid institutional license. A license costs around 100€ plus 70€ for MS Office. After that you get access to the preconfigured Windows images, which have to be imported to into your VirtualBox.
How to import
We have written an import script which can be launched with the following command from the command line:
import-windows-to-box
This script checks your environment and if everything is fine, you get a list of available Windows images. Choose one by presseing enter.
