If your software need can not be fulfilled with Linux, we provide Windows based on a virtual machine. Starting with Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) we use VirtualBox in the open source edition for this.
How to get a Windows license
The get the permission to use Windows and MS Office you must own a valid institutional windows base license. A license costs around 100€. This can be any windows down to Windows 98. Windows Upgrades and Office are covered by the Microsoft Campus Agreement [1]. After that you get access to the preconfigured Windows images, which have to be imported to into your VirtualBox.
How to import
We have written an import script which can be launched with the following command from the command line:
import-windows-to-box
This script checks your environment and if everything is fine, you get a list of available Windows images. Choose one by presseing enter.
