Stochastic Variational Method and Dissipative Processes
Takeshi Kodama (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro)
Variational methods are not only fundamental for the
formulation of a theory but it is also an important tool to
derive approximate or effective models of complicated systems.
What happens, however, if the variational degrees of freedom
are of stochastic nature? In this talk, I present an elementary
introuction of such an approach, with an example of the
derivation of the Schrödinger Equation starting from a single-particle action.
We argue that the method can be extended for
dissipative systems and discuss some possible applications.
