New charge-transfer (CT) complexes from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons of various sizes being modified
by functional groups to tune their donor and acceptor character will be prepared. Additionally,
derivatives will be employed which are hydrogenated at the periphery in order to be less rigid and
planar - features which are considered promising for the materials' conducting properties. The design
of further molecules will be supported by theoretical guidelines regarding the HOMO-LUMO matching and
band structure analysis. Different crystallisation techniques will be applied, as well as thin film
formation towards CT complexes.
Several interactions with other projects are planned such as pressure-dependent studies of the
conductivity in project Lang (B6), the electronic properties and CT performance in Aeschlimann/Felser/Schönhense (B8), and thin
film cosublimation of components provided here in the project Huth (B9). Further interactions will be with
the project Gros (B7) via model calculations on the superconducting- and
normal-state properties.
