This project explores analogies to orbital-selective Mott transitions in flavour mixes (different atomic species, hyperfine states, and/or vibrational levels) of ultracold fermions on optical lattices. By developing and solving suitable generalised multi-band Hubbard models within DMFT, we will show how flavour-specific hopping amplitudes (and interactions) can lead to flavour-selective Mott transitions and which novel phases and physics are to be expected.

This project is tightly linked to Bloch (A1) where experiments will be performed: (i) our studies will focus on parameter ranges accessible to Bloch (A1), (ii) interesting parameters identified by us will provide guidance for Bloch (A1). Other work on frustration will make contact with Kuhr/Bloch (A2). Our methods and focus are complementary to the theory project Hofstetter (A3); fruitful exchange with the option of a later LDA+DMFT project with Jeschke/Valentí (B2) is anticipated.
